" The Way I Feel" : Using this book to teach children about emotions

1. As you read the book aloud ask the children to make faces for each feeling mentioned.
2. Have Kids draw self portraits that show different emotions.
3. Play "emotion" charades: give The Way I Feel to the kids and ask them to identify which emotion you're expressing when you make a face.
4. Ask children what makes them feel joyful, frustrated, proud or any of the other emotions depicted in The Way I Feel.
5. Cover up the text on The Way I Feel. Ask kids to look at the colors and images and identify what feelings are being communicated
6. As children make their faces, photograph them. Post the pictures—on the refrigerator door, on the bedroom bulletin board or in the classroom—after you've labeled each one with the name of an emotion.

"My Many Colored Days"

Procedures:
1. Read My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss. Use as a tool for discussion of different emotions. Question how they were portrayed in book. Present poster with colors and ask children to name an emotion for each color. Fill in poster with emotion children decide on.

Goals & Objectives:
          1. The students will demonstrate through art an understanding of emotions as heard in music.
          2. The students will discuss the differences found between major and minor keys in terms of emotions.
